Happy New Year

there is nothing worse than a new years eve
because it sits and waits
for the unsuspecting fools
who wish for great things
or something...
anything
better than they experienced the previous year
and it catapults its aggression all over those
who use it
as a starting point or endgame
for something new
and it offloads its muck
into their hungry mouths
and they consume
over and over again
as they have no choice
as a new year is the easy way out
and the throwaway gesture that is looked at lightheartedly
and makes everyone feel they can do better next year
until tomorrow

but if only they had stopped for a second
and thought
just once
in their quest for...
well
whatever it was

it's just another fucking day
