Say It Again

Are these people genuinely deaf
or just deliberately trying to annoy me
I say something to them
and they reply
"say again.." or
"you what?.."
I know that everybody mis-hears something at some point
and needs to say "pardon?"
but when I speak to certain individuals
I already know what the answer is
"eh?"
"sorry?"

Sometimes they then even answer me without waiting for the requested repetition
which I find especially irritating

Some people smoke / pick their nose / bite their nails / do drugs

Others say "eh"

Often
